Thank you to the enthusiastic and stylish crowd that joined us at Hutton Hotel for our 2020 Nashville Fashion Week Launch Party last night! We were excited to announce our 2019 Nashville Fashion Forward Fund recipient with exciting preliminary plans for the 10th Anniversary of our city-wide celebration of Nashville's thriving fashion and retail community. It was fitting that we celebrated our ten year launch at Hutton Hotel since the location is where we initially launched NFW in 2011 and 2020 is also the hotel's 10th anniversary.

Nashville Fashion Week will take place March 31- April 4, 2020 in collaboration with our strategic partner OZ Arts Nashville for the third year in a row. The theme of the 10th Anniversary year is "We Are Nashville Fashion". A focus on diversity and inclusion will be the focus for the programming and planning ranging from the AMAX + NFW Model Search and Learning Labs to the runway shows. This theme will also be at the forefront in the upcoming visual campaign and communications that will showcase the diverse contributors from the community who have supported and promoted the growth of Nashville fashion over the past decade.

"Nashville Fashion Week and OZ Arts are both dedicated to shining light on the exceptional artists and creative professionals who call our city home. It's a very synergistic partnership that OZ is proud to be part of, and I look forward to watching the fashion industry's continued impact on our creative community." - Tim Ozgener, President & CEO, OZ Arts Nashville

Nashville Fashion Week Co-Founders and Managing Partners, Connie Cathcart-Richardson and Marcia Masulla are eager to celebrate year ten with the Nashville creative community.

"Nashville Fashion Week and the Nashville Fashion Forward Fund have helped raise awareness of Nashville’s vast creative talent by showcasing close to 140 designers and hundreds of local businesses with an investment of over $1.3 million in the local fashion community over the past nine years," said Connie Cathcart-Richardson and Marcia Masulla. "We look forward to continuing to foster Nashville’s fashion-forward and entrepreneurial talent for many years to come with this volunteer led and run event.”

The British Fashion Council (BFC) announces today its intention to launch the Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF). The BFC recognises that the fashion industry engages consumers daily, and whilst it is often seen as forward thinking, it also appreciates that through global supply chains the industry can have a negative impact on the planet. There is an urgent need for industry-wide coalition to help set industry standards in a new way, embrace innovation and develop the need for leaders to create green businesses fit for the future and enable positive change.

Through the IPF, the BFC aims to create an industry blueprint by bringing together expertise from different areas to help brands in the industry navigate an often confusing to understand topic and kick-start a much-need comprehensive step-change. Informed by research, expert opinion, industry insights and the significant industry experience of individual businesses and organisations, the power of collective effort will amplify independent activity.

Sustainability has been a part of the BFC’s strategy since 2006. The Esthetica showcase put sustainable fashion at the heart of London Fashion Week before evolving into Positive Fashion in 2013, a platform designed to celebrate industry best practice and encourage future business decisions to create positive change. Many international organisations are also taking action, from our counterparts in other territories to the G7 Fashion Pact which includes several British businesses including Burberry and Stella McCartney and local organisations such as Fashion Revolution and Common Objective, to name only a few. The BFC is uniquely placed to help lead the change and accelerate an industry-led transition towards a sustainable future. It will bring together a broad range of businesses and stakeholders as well as leverage global platforms such as London Fashion Week and The Fashion Awards to reach international audiences, empowering and educating them to be part of the Positive Fashion movement.

The IPF will galvanise opinion and industry best practice across the fashion industry. It will accelerate progress made in all areas of sustainability that will be impactful and lasting, by creating educational programmes and campaigns aimed at both industry and the public. The aim being to catalyse and expedite change. The IPF ambition has been pushed forward by the Positive Fashion Committee since early 2019. The next quarter will see further development of the programme, that will build on the existing resources of the Positive Fashion Committee.

The BFC takes its role in shaping a truly sustainable industry for future generations seriously. As we build momentum we encourage and welcome participation and invite all parties to register their interest with us – positivefashion@britishfashioncouncil.com
To coincide with London Fashion Week, DHL, in association with the BFC, have commissioned a White Paper highlighting the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry. The paper provides businesses with easy to follow recommendations ensuring positive fashion remains at the heart of the industry. The White Paper will be launched on the British Fashion Council’s website on Friday 13th September.

In 1904 Giacomo Puccini premiered Madame Butterfly, his vision of Japan reflected the complex and fascinating relationship and the western world. A relationship that developed and transformed into a thrilling dialogue. While Puccini ‘s masterpiece highlighted the colonial attitude of the earlier twentieth-century western world Pierpaolo Piccioli imagined a Japan in dialogue with Italian Renaissance, two worlds so far and so near at the same time, both devoted to the worship of harmony and details and yet so much fascinated with the other and the new.

Two cultures very close to each other but divided by that sacred architectural symbolic space called in Japanese “ma”. In the Italian language “ma” is a conjunction, it unifies while in Japanese it divides, separates. TKY by Pierpaolo Piccioli the ambiguity of these two terms. He works within the void and with the conjunction, bringing together in a two-way road the quality of Italian craftsmanship with that one of Japanese masters in different disciplines.

Also, TKY aims to embrace the conflicting and mesmerizing energy of contemporary Japan where an ageless culture of adolescence rides the past like a race bike through the present into the future. TKY highlights the idea that through utter differences and misunderstandings two different languages can create a third, even more, detailed and fascinating one. A visual language filled with experimentation and absolute perfection.
Valentino with TKY creates a fashion “toko no ma”, space, a niche which to seek respectfully its own “toko utsuri” harmony between the Italian creative power and the Japanese perfection.

TKY is a composition where the detail marries the whole. What Pierpaolo Piccioli wants is to allow Valentino’s legacy and language to be interpreted and performed by a Japanese eye. Its symbols and signature elements transformed and updated to contemporary Japanese culture while remaining deeply grounded into Valentino’s identity and tradition.

LONDON FASHION WEEK OPENS ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC

Today, the British Fashion Council (BFC) is delighted to announce that London Fashion Week will be the first of the four global fashion weeks to open its doors to the public.
Starting from September 2019, London Fashion Week will offer dedicated experiences for both a trade and public audience through one dynamic schedule, further blurring the lines of what was traditionally known as a global trade platform.

Known for its creativity and innovation, London Fashion Week attracts an audience of press, buyers and industry professionals from over 50 countries who come to London to explore and discover the best creative talent; from emerging designers to heritage labels and internationally recognised fashion houses. In response to the ever-changing fashion landscape and the growing public interest towards London Fashion Week, the BFC is launching a new Fashion Week format to increase engagement and reach new audiences for designer businesses.

The London Fashion Week schedule will now facilitate two audiences. The trade audience will attend on schedule catwalk shows and presentations routinely across the 5 days of London Fashion Week from 13th – 17th September 2019. The public audience will be able to purchase a ticket to an immersive London Fashion Week experience that will include a selection of designers that will showcase 6 ticketed catwalk shows which will take place at the official London Fashion Week Hub, on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2019; creative installations, industry-led talk panels from experts offering unparalleled insights to the fashion industry, the DiscoveryLAB, an experiential space where fashion meets art, technology and music and a brand new Designer Exhibition, where the creative work of progressive designers explores the most compelling stories around sustainability, community and ethics.

As part of the new London Fashion Week proposition, the Designer Exhibition will relaunch and will fully embrace #PositiveFashion, the BFC’s initiative designed to celebrate industry best practice and encourage future business decisions to create positive change. The Designer Exhibition will be open to both the trade and public audience and will be the place where guests discover new creative brands and progressive designers, explore compelling stories and learn about how the fashion industry can be used as a force for change.

#PositiveFashion is led by three pillars: Sustainability, Equality & Diversity, Craftsmanship & Community and London Fashion Week is inviting designers to tell their story, showcase how products are made and bring their brands and stories to life for a trade and public audience alike.

The celebration of London Fashion Week does not live solely within the hub. It will extend to a city-wide celebration of activations and events that will be curated by the BFC in partnership with key retailers, cultural institutions, brands and partners to engage communities throughout the capital to get involved and capitalise on the success of this global event to reach new audiences. The aim being to inspire young people and make #LFW a cultural city-wide celebration that will introduce fashion to a wider pool of people who may not have previously engaged with it or understand the incredible careers and opportunities that the industry holds.

New this season, the British Fashion Council will host the London Fashion Week schedule within the LetsBab app, allowing attendees to receive up to the minute schedule updates and show start times through notifications on the go. Reopening of the Queen's House after restoration and refurnishing

1/23/2019

Picture
The Queen’s House will be reopening its doors to the public on 12 May 2018, thanks to patronage from Dior. Located in the heart of the hamlet built for Marie-Antoinette by Richard Mique between 1783 and 1787, the House was in need of full restoration work. Alongside this, it has been refurnished according to its oldest known historic condition, which is as it was designed for Empress Marie-Louise, the second wife of Napoleon I. For the first time in two centuries visitors will be able to discover the extreme refinement of the interior decor of the House and its contrast with the picturesque bucolic appearance of the exterior.
.

ESSENTIAL RESTORATION ACCORDING TO THE ORIGINAL DESIGN

The restoration of the Queen’s House and the Warming Room, located nearby, had become all the more necessary since their state of dilapidation prevented them from being open to the public.

The project, launched in 2015, involved cleaning and full restoration of the stonework, framework and roofing. The structures have been strengthened to allow guided tours while the flooring, woodwork and paintwork have been restored according to descriptions in the 18th-century work logbooks, or according to the arrangements made in the early 19th century by Empress Marie-Louise, the wife of Napoleon I and the last person to live here.

The restoration of the Warming Room – an outbuilding containing a kitchen and service areas (pantry, silverware, sideboard, vegetable garden and bread oven) used to prepare meals served in the dining room of the neighbouring Queen’s House – recalls the functioning of the Hamlet and life here during the Ancien Régime.

The replanting of the gardens and surrounding area of these buildings puts the finishing touches to the operation. It restores the Hamlet’s landscape design, as had been previously done in the 1930s, combining its condition when it was replanted for Marie-Louise in 1810 with a few references to the layout for Marie-Antoinette, such as the spiral staircase and vegetable gardens.

AN EXCEPTIONAL REFURNISHING PROJECT

The restoration of the interior decor and refurnishing of the main rooms in the Queen’s House and the Games House were a major part of this operation. Two hundred years after the fall of the Empire, these places have rediscovered their refinement designed for Marie-Louise and the deliberate contrast desired by the French sovereigns between rustic “shabby” exteriors and interiors of mind-blowing luxury.

Masons, joiners, carpenters, thatchers, electricians, heating engineers, painters, gardeners… All types of tradesmen (or almost) have taken part in this operation led by Jacques Moulin, Head Architect for Historic Monuments. From cabinetmakers to silk suppliers, trimmings suppliers, upholsterers, ancient textile restorers, leather workers, bronze workers, sculptors and gilders, multiple artistic craftsmen have contributed to the success of the project, managed by Jeremiah Benoit, Head Curator at the Palace of Versailles in charge of the Palaces of Trianon. Once again, the high-level expertise of French craftsmen has been brought to the fore.

A NEW MUSEUM

Over the past few years the improvement of the Estate of Trianon has been a priority for the Palace of Versailles. The full restoration and refurnishing of these spaces, begun in 2008 with the Petit Trianon and continued in 2016 with the presidential apartments in the Grand Trianon and then the Queen’s House in 2018, showcases these unique locations that evoke the intimacy of the monarchs. The Palace of Versailles is constantly opening new doors to its visitors.
