“Sumter’s Initiation into Fashion” began last Wednesday, on August the 22nd with a Who's Who of Sumter's Celebrity Kickoff event and ran until Saturday, August 25th with 2 runway shows.  There was also a meet and greet with the models and designers.

Sumter Fashion Week is quite the talk of the town at the moment. You can hear fashion week details on both 100.1 The Beat, WNOK radio in Columbia and on Hot 103.9.

Things are heating up in South Carolina. This past weekend marked the inauguration of a beautiful and stylish week that will take place in Sumter, South Carolina.  For those who have not been lucky enough to spend some time here, the locals will tell you how the city and county of Sumter bear the name of General Thomas Sumter, also known as, the "Fighting Gamecock."  And speaking of the South Carolina Gamecocks, the football team happens to take on Coastal Carolina for their season opener this Saturday. Sports and fashion, a match made in Heaven.

This is what Sumter Fashion Week promised, “Sumter Fashion Week will be engineering the global fashion experience and attracting industry influencers with a passport to arts, culture, fashion, and entertainment. Fashion is more than just the clothes, it is a movement, a feeling, and an expression.”  Their promise was fulfilled.

As a side note, when all of you Gamecock fans are watching Saturday’s game, just remember where your name came from.

Sports and Fashion. A match made on (and off) the field.

Latonya Franklin of MoodSwing Magazine had this to say, “I think that this will be the start of a fabulous thing for Sumter.”

The final night of fashion week began at the historic O’donnell house.  The two story Italianate design home, touched by renowned architect Frank Pierce Milburn, and its picturesque decor worked as the perfect backdrop for the evening of runway shows.

VIP FASHION SUMMERING... QUEEN CITY STYLE

Just the other weekend I was lucky enough to be Guest Listed for the private Press and Media Event for the kick-off of Charlotte Fashion Week. The party was hosted in the historic Uptown neighborhood (near the Bank of America Stadium - Go Panthers!) on the top floor at The Vue, the tallest residential building in the state.  Although the line to get into the party stretched from the lobby all the way around the outside of the building when I arrived, the concierge did a wonderful job of escorting all of the guests up to the 50th floor in a relaxed manner.  When I first approached the building, I was in awe at the luxurious surroundings as a few well-dressed ladies passed by swiftly, their heels clanking on the concrete while I overheard one of the ladies say to the others, “they had to deny us entry since it was a private party - we will have to be prepared for this the next time!”

As I exited the elevator and entered the event space, I was greeted by some familiar faces and other soon-to-be familiar faces.  I stopped to take a selfie at the “ARE YOU THE NEXT TOP MODEL?” sign that was as tall as I was before moseying my way into the backstage area where the hair and makeup artists were controlling the chaos of BTS model prep.

After I said my introductions and snapped a few photos at one of the press walls, I could hear the recognizable throbbing beat of Calvin Harris with Rhianna crooning, “Baby, this is what you came for / Lightning strikes every time she moves / And everybody's watching her / but she's looking at you” - one of my all-time favorite songs when modeling on the runway!

As I danced my way through the crowd outside I noticed a plethora of friendly-looking guests of the party mingling, swimming and dancing by the rooftop pool. Everyone was having a fabulous time!  My main priority was to get a good seat for the Summer Seen Fashion Show for swimsuit and resort wear. So I scoped out the seen and ended up in this lovely cabana in the shade next to a stylishly dressed quaintrelle rocking the most beautiful shade of bubblegum-pink lipstick.  Her name was Danielle and she was a HUGE fan of the city, and this was her third weekend traveling to Charlotte from NYC.  We became great friends.

Being able to relax with a Summer-themed cocktail created by SOCIAL HOUSE VODKA while watching runway shows from a poolside cabana featuring the latest Summer trends was simply an afternoon delight.
